Our Story

As a kid growing up in Ghana, my mother used Shea Butter for almost everything. It was used for hair, as lotion, and even at times for cooking. I heard so many stories about the benefits of Shea Butter but I did not like it! I mean it was not easy to use because of how hard it gets and I didn’t particularly care for the smell.

As I grew up, Shea Butter became a distant memory that I didn’t care for until the year 2013 when a life threatening illness prompted me to search for natural and organic alternatives to medicine. In order to minimize the amount of medication I was taking, I decided to eat more raw vegetables and green smoothies. While on this path, I also decided to get rid of all possible toxic chemicals I may have been putting on my body.

My research led me back to Shea Butter and this time I approached it differently. I embraced its benefits but still needed to figure out a way to melt it and make it smell good. I started by heating it and adding my favorite fragrance which worked perfectly for my skin but it solidified as soon as I finished using it however, it was working for my skin and people kept asking me for the name of my lotion and when I told them it’s Shea Butter, they were often surprised.

I knew that heating up my Shea Butter every time I needed to use it was not sustainable so I spent months working on how to make the Shea Butter more “user friendly” without having to heat it up. In the summer of 2017 with the support of my husband Eric and my children, and after many inquiries from people, I decided to share my skincare secret with the masses by creating my signature Shea Butter Cream.

The name “Luceric” is a combination of my name Lucille and my husband Eric’s name. Welcome to the Luceric Beauty brand! Look for more product lines in the future. For now, enjoy the Shea Butter Cream.

Additional Information

Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa). It is ivory in color when raw, with more processed versions being white in color, although it is commonly dyed yellow with borututu root or palm oil. It is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, salve or lotion. Shea butter is edible and is used in food preparation in some African countries. Occasionally, shea butter is mixed with other oils as a substitute for cocoa butter, although the taste is noticeably different.

The common name is shíyiri or shísu (lit. “shea tree”) in the Bambara language of Mali. This is the origin of the English word. The shea tree grows naturally in the wild in the dry savannah belt of West Africa from Senegal in the west to Sudan in the east, and onto the foothills of the Ethiopian highlands. It occurs in 21 countries across the African continent, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya and Guinea.
